Campaign Story
About the project
Bhadradri Kothagudem, a tribal-dominated district in Telangana that depends majorly on agriculture for their livelihood. The community faces significant challenges in early childhood care and maternal health. The Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) in the region lack basic infrastructural facilities, leading to poor execution of the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Program. Due to inadequate living standards, limited healthcare access, and low awareness of prenatal and postnatal care, children suffer from anemia, malnutrition, and severe stunting. Additionally, maternal health is compromised as many women remain unaware of the importance of institutional deliveries.
Making a difference
CRY America’s Project Eco Foundation for Research & Training (EFFORT) aims to improve healthcare access, provide nutritional support, and promote family participation across 44 villages in Bhadradri Kothagudem District. The project focuses on identifying vulnerable families, offering counseling for children and maternal health, promoting institutional deliveries, supporting malnourished children to combat malnutrition, ensuring newborn immunization, and enhancing the infrastructure of Anganwadi Centers for maternal and infant health services.
The way forward
● Track 39 pregnant women, ensuring their access to Ante-Natal Care and facilitating at least 29 institutional deliveries
● Track 48 lactating mothers to ensure adequate nutrition, breastfeeding, and vaccination for their children
● Track 5 high-risk pregnancies and ensure regular health checkups, medication, and institutional deliveries
● Strengthen 10 Health, Nutrition, and Sanitation Committees across 10 villages
● Conduct awareness sessions on health and child rights in 24 schools
● Track 48 children aged 0–6 months, ensuring they receive supplementary nutrition
● Refer 15 Severely Underweight children to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers for advanced treatment
● Support the transition of 25 Severely Underweight children to Moderately Underweight status, and 30 children from Moderately Underweight to full recovery
● Strengthen 6 Children’s Collectives and 12 Adolescent’s Collectives on Life Skills and child rights issues
● Train at least 100 parents through the Parents Module
